After 14 months, OnStar hardware errors |
OnStar through our Saturn Relay has gone down. Red light on the phone system rendering the phone inoperable. No OnStar functions will work without this phone system.

Meanwhile we’re paying monthly for the service both through OnStar ($16.95/month) and Verizon for the phone ($10/month) so getting this hardware repaired was a priority.
OnStar has been a good service so far and this is the first hardware problem we’ve had in the 14 months that we’ve owned the vehicle. The repair work is under warranty. It was time for an oil change. We’ve put a little over 15,000 miles on the vehicle in this time.

Turns out the dealer didn’t have all the necessary parts so needed to contact OnStar. I called OnStar and mentioned that we’ve been down for a couple weeks and spend three hours yesterday at the dealership only to be told that they needed to order parts. A reasonable situation for the dealership, but not so reasonable considering we are still paying the monthly fee. We were told that when the dealer fixes the OnStar system we’ll get two months service credited to our account, we just need to call them back when it’s fixed.
That’s how it has always been dealing with OnStar over the last 14 months, they have some of the best customer service I’ve ever experienced from any company.

It’s great to read good customer service experiences! They’re so hard to find nowadays.
I don’t have OnStar on my car, but I won’t think twice about having ever having it installed now that I’ve read your post. Thanks!

[…] I’m going to try adding a USB hub and see if that might give me back the ability to add the keyboard and external drive. Boy, this last week we had a lot of hardware problems, some of which I didn’t even write about here. Black cloud above us, please go away now. share/bookmark: MyWeb | del.icio.us | digg it! […]
