Origami “taking shape as a very small tablet computer” says CNET |
This last week the tech rags, blogs, pundits and experts have been speculating on what is Microsoft Origami. Nobody seems to know for certain, although the name seems rather orgasmic in origin, is that intentional?

CNET is stepping out further on the rumor limb to declare as a “very small tablet computer” citing unnamed sources:
With a screen bigger than that of a handheld but smaller than a notebook PC screen, Origami devices won’t fit in the pocket, but they’ll make it into purses and even the smallest of backpacks … Origami is capable of supporting features like GPS, Bluetooth, 3G cellular technology and Wi-Fi, though each of these adds to the cost of the device.
The hype and buzz around this device is suffocating which puts my suspicious antennae on high alert status. The official Origami website is a vague Flash movie. On Digg I saw someone posted a link to a video on YouTube (pictured above). Despite watching it a few times, I’m not sure what to make of that video or the device pictured therein.
Looks like an odd-sized white etch-a-sketch. If it can operate as a Tablet PC for under $600 USD and run Xbox 360 games that would be just too good to be true. Something tells me that’s wishful thinking. Any ideas what this thing really is or what it will be about?

Hey TD, where did you get the idea from that it would run Xbox 360 games?
I see that a dude is playing Halo on it, but that is just plain old Halo, any PC will run it today so.

That’s just me and “wishful thinking” Forser. I’ve read all sorts of rumors this past week, including and excluding the Xbox. But to me, if it plays Xbox games and not Xbox 360 games, how big a deal is that? I really have no idea what this thing can/will do, despite dozens of stories, pictures and that video.

What i have heard, that video is 1 year old and play Xbox Games, not unlikely, PSP plays PS2 games so it is possible that if that origami is true that it can play Xbox games.
Would be sweet.

[…] I tried to stay away from being sucked into too much of the Origami hype, and now the details have finally come out along with a name change: Ultimate Mobile PC. […]
