Today we find out if movies are Apple’s announcement |
Apple invited the press corps to Sillicon Valley later today where we’ll stop hearing rumours and find out what Steve Jobs is about to announce.
With the stage now set for a push into selling movies, here’s how Apple might go Hollywood on Tuesday:
1) A True Video iPod,
2) Intel Mac Mini,
3) Widescreen iBook,
4) iTunes Movie Store
TV shows have reportedly been selling well, so it seems like a natural progression for them to get into movies. It is too bad Apple doesn’t seem to dig the rental scene, because they have enough consumer interest to launch a Netflix-like service online.
Just imagine being able to get DVDs when they come out for play inside iTunes and the iPod? But would they be true DVD quality? I don’t think people would go for subpar quality, DRM’d to the max old movies, but then I didn’t think people would buy one billion iTunes DRM’d songs. Wasn’t quite as skeptical about the TV stuff, but I’ve read numerous quality complaints there. Apparently quality isn’t a huge concern?
I haven’t bought any TV shows yet. I might be interested in movies though if the quality is very good and there is some flexibility. We’ll find out later today what Apple has planned.
Is Apple going to be streaming this event live, does anybody know?
Update 4:03pm PST: Announcement did not include movies, instead a couple of new Mac Minis ($599 and $799) and a HiFi iPod (see cate’s comment below).
