VoIP everywhere, including Firefox with OpenWengo extension |
One would have to be asleep longer than Rip Van Winkle not to notice the explosion of VoIP products. Yesterday, vBulletin added Skype presence functionality to their board system with version 3.5.4 update.
Today, available for Windows, Mac or Linux, WengoPhone Firefox Extension:
… is a communication tool based on the SIP protocol, developed by the OpenWengo community and released under the GNU General Public License. … A full-fledged communications tool that lets you enjoy free calls, video conferencing, SMS, chat.
Free PC-to-PC calls, that is like the rest. OpenWengo was founded in January 2005, so they aren’t brand new to the game.
Om Malik also mentions Zoep another VoIP to Firefox extension.
As I wrote a couple weeks ago, it’s a chat overdose and we might as well throw VoIP into the mix. I still use Skype the most for VoIP on the computer, Vonage off the computer and Trillian for IM. If any readers have/use any of the VoIP/chat options above please let me know what I’m missing from these other offerings.
Any readers using Skype, Vonage or other VoIP regularly? Or do cell phones rule your talk communications?
Did this post make you go hmm?
