RadioShack plans to close 400-700 stores

customer adventures, finance — by TDavid @ 11:17 am PST

Not having a local Radio Shack seems like a bummer to me. We don’t shop there very often, but when we do it’s almost always for something nobody else sells. Too bad the margin on that low priced hard to find item isn’t very good.

via digg:

The consumer electronics retailer, which is hiring legal counsel to investigate the admission by CEO David Edmondson, also announced a new turnaround plan that includes closing 400 to 700 company-operated stores. It said the plan could result in costs of up to $100 million.

Awhile back we thought about getting a second Vonage box from them but it was much cheaper getting it directly from Vonage, so we just waited.

Any readers shop at Radio Shack for something other than hard to find items? Will you miss the local store if it goes away?

  1. I can’t remember the last time I was in Radio Shack. I thought it was already gone.
Maybe they will (eventually) just do the online thing. (?)

  2. I go to Radio Shack a few times a year when I need that quick item that I want now. Closing 10% of their stores seems reasonable to me. I have 3 stores within a 5 min drive from my house. In the LA area they seem to be oversaturated.
