I became an almost instant fan of Opera after finally using it (it’s free now) it and am happy to see Nintendo embracing Opera for their Nintendo DS system:

Advanced Media has received word that one of several new announcements to be made at a Nintendo DS conference in Japan will be the unveiling of a new Web Browser for the dual-screen handheld. Early reports indicate that the browser will be powered by Opera Software technology.

Opera is well regarded for their mobile browser, so this should prove to be a real good fit. It’s too bad that Nintendo has waited so long to get online. Yeah, they had the whole McDonald’s tie-in, but the PSP has been gobbling up the accolades for their browser clear back to when they launched and the Wipeout Pure browser mod was discovered.

  1. I recently tried Opera for the first time myself. I like it way better than IE, but it also seems to have some of the same issues as IE which are not issues for Firefox: http://www.chipstips.com/microblog/index.php/post/41/
On the whole, I like Firefox better — unless perhaps you can enlighten me about areas where Opera excels…

  2. My problem with Firefox is I have too many extensions I like so it ends up bloating the browser experience, sort of like too many toolbars in IE. None of this is the browser maker’s faults, but for me it is one where I’m forced to run a more minimalist experience. With Opera I have no toolbars, no extras, no fluff, it’s just a very fast, smooth experience and I like using those sessions. Of course you can do something similar with extensions.

I have sessions setup for different types of work environments.

  3. Without resorting to extensions: I just create a folder to contain all of the pages for a “session”, and then I can right-click on the folder and select “Open in Tabs”. Put the folder on the Bookmark Toolbar, et voila.
