I am a big <a href="http://flickr.com/photos/redune">flickr user</a>, and I was not too impresed by Riya. It was very clunky and slow. the face recognition did not work too well. I keep meaning to go back and give it another try, it may have improved since. Though my verdict at the moment is, that you are not missing too much. I am actually in the Riya beta.
