If you leave comments on multiple blogs and wished you could use something to help you keep track of what you left where, then CoComment could be for you.

It’s in closed beta at the moment but the developer, Laurent, recently left a bunch of invite keys in Scoble’s blog and they weren’t all gone a few minutes ago when I signed up. And they have a bookmarklet that works with Opera, woohoo!

Hurry, if interested.

Update 3/4/2006 10:40am PST: No more invites required.

  1. Thanks for sharing. I must have went over there just in time. It’s like the lottery though. You may need to pick a few to find one that works.

  2. Well, they were all out when I got over to Scoble’s. Its so cliche to ask for an invite, so I’ll just hint with ellipsis…

  3. Nathan - I saw in one of the last comments that if you fill out something on their site that they are sending out codes, so you might try that. I wish I had invites to share on this one actually because this could be a quite useful tool.

  4. A few more codes in this post’s comments:

  5. Found a code on Scoble’s site that worked! Great tool!!

  6. […] This is really cool. I first saw this on Scoble’s site and then on TDavid’s site. When both of them blog about something, there is a very high chance that I will be interested in whatever it is. […]

  7. Wow. This is cool. This is going to bring an entirely new dimension to blogging. Awesome!

    Comment by Andrew Ferguson — February 5, 2006 @ 4:50 pm PST

  8. Yeah I made a fool of myself when Laurent posted keys on my blog, and I asked who he was…

    Comment by RyanB — February 5, 2006 @ 11:40 pm PST

  9. The Greasemonkey script makes it far less complex. Alas, I still have to do it when in Safari.

One thing that would be very cool is if coComment could make an API so blogging software could check up on someone’s posting record as a moderation / spam prevention device.

  10. I went to the site and signed up to use when available, and they sent me a key. So I tried it, but I guess the nickname you use in coComment has to match your nickname in your comment — so I’m changing nicknames here to see if that works.

    Comment by SterlingCamden — February 6, 2006 @ 3:04 pm PST

  11. No it isn’t Sterling… as you can see my name here is RyanB but my coComment is different.

    Comment by RyanB — February 6, 2006 @ 6:14 pm PST

  12. Right you are. After reading a little more thoroughly, I found that you have to press the coComment button BEFORE you submit your content — not so good for “oh, and also”-oriented people like me. I’ll go back to being “Sterling Camden” now and try this button one more time.

Damn. It isn’t saving my login information, and complains about cookie settings. As far as I can tell, I am allowing cookies, but maybe CounterSpy is getting in the way or something.

    Comment by SterlingCamden — February 6, 2006 @ 6:25 pm PST

  13. I’m noticing problems with coComment in Opera where it doesn’t save the bookmarklet after closing the browser session. Anybody else using Opera with coComment and having this problem? I’m already in the habit of saving whatever I type for comments or posts before hitting post, so it’s not a big deal hitting their button first. Some sort of Windows/Linux/Mac app that would do this automatically would be better of course.

  14. You can click after too Sterling, just highlight the text that you typed in this box and click. Do not ask how it works…but it does.

    Comment by RyanB — February 6, 2006 @ 6:59 pm PST

  15. Not working for me, RyanB. Something is messing up the login stuff. But I know I have cookies enabled, because I maintain login sessions on other sites just fine.

    Comment by SterlingCamden — February 6, 2006 @ 7:11 pm PST

  16. Sterling - What does it say that you are messing up on? Do you think it is messing up because you aren’t getting feedback after clicking the bookmarklet? In comment 15, this is what you should and only need to highlight: Not working for me, RyanB. Something is messing up the login stuff. But I know I have cookies enabled, because I maintain login sessions on other sites just fine. then click the button. Then coComment works its wonders, and you don’t see anything happening. But trust me…

  17. The message I get is:

    coComment
You have to login first to be able to send your comments to coComment.
Cookies don’t appear to be stored correctly. Please either allow cookies from anywhere in your preferences or go to the www.cocomment.com web page to login.

I have logged in, but no joy. I am using IE 6 on XP SP2.

  18. Sorry to do this but are we talking a comment you posted on this site and you forgot to click, or what? perhaps try firefox?

    Comment by RyanB — February 7, 2006 @ 12:50 pm PST

  19. […] Look at what happened with cocomment recently. They weren’t even planning on launching the beta, showed Scoble something in a Swiss chalet and he said, hey that’s cool show it to the world, and they started handing out invites. Even they were overwhelmed and that was with zero pre-hype, imagine the mountain Teaseya has to jump over. That’s the kind of launch where even if things go wrong and are rough gives a company a better change to ease into the market. […]

  20. OK, finally getting around to trying this with Firefox.

    Comment by Sterling Camden — February 13, 2006 @ 4:18 pm PST

  21. LOL you haven’t used it in FF yet? I strongly suggest installing the Greasemonkey script

    Comment by RyanB — February 13, 2006 @ 4:49 pm PST

  22. Come again, RyanB? It seems to work great in Firefox. I tried it in Opera 8, and that just hangs while it says that it’s submitting comment to the original blog.

    Comment by Sterling Camden — February 13, 2006 @ 4:55 pm PST

  23. I meant its seamless with Firefox because there is the greasemonkey script that clicks your bookmarklet for you…

    Comment by RyanB — February 13, 2006 @ 5:01 pm PST

  24. In Opera, it looks like my comment made it to coComment.com, but not back to the blog. Yet another reason that Firefox is becoming my favorite browser.

    Comment by Sterling Camden — February 13, 2006 @ 5:04 pm PST

  25. I never did like Opera…

    Comment by RyanB — February 13, 2006 @ 5:07 pm PST

  26. Where do I find and install this well-lubricated simian?

    Comment by Sterling Camden — February 13, 2006 @ 5:11 pm PST

  27. You never heard of Greasemonkey?

    Comment by RyanB — February 13, 2006 @ 5:22 pm PST

  28. BTW, looks like others have had the same problem with Opera: http://www.cocomment.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=600#p600

    Comment by Sterling Camden — February 13, 2006 @ 5:26 pm PST

  29. No, I haven’t heard of Greasemonkey before, but a quick look at the link you just gave me tells me that I will explore this further. Thanks!

    Comment by Sterling Camden — February 13, 2006 @ 5:28 pm PST

  30. well there you have it…

    Comment by RyanB — February 13, 2006 @ 5:28 pm PST

  31. GM is very very handy.

    Comment by RyanB — February 13, 2006 @ 5:29 pm PST

  32. […] Since discovering Cocomment a month ago I’m still using on/off and like many others enjoying its usefulness. One thing I’ve noticed recently is a red x showing up when I go to comment on some blogs like TechCrunch and even this one intermittently: […]

Pingback by Make You Go Hmm: » Cocomment red x syndrome? — March 4, 2006 @ 1:52 pm PST

  33. […] As serendipity would always have it, another reason for this evaluation presented itself. I signed up for coComment and installed the “Bookmarklet”, so I could keep track of comments I make on other blogs. When I tried to use it, though, it kept on asking me to log in, and would pop up a message box complaining that Cookies did not seem to be stored correctly. Well, I knew I had cookies enabled, because other sites remembered my information just fine. After discussing this with a few folks on Makeyougohmm.com, RyanB suggested I try Firefox instead. Time to download. […]
