MSN Spaces 35 million users now have global content policy |
Microsoft shares their new Policy Framework for Dealing with Government Restrictions on Blog Content as it will relate to MSN Spaces blogs around the world. The three key items are:
1. Microsoft will only remove content if it violates their Terms of Service or they receive “a legally binding notice from the government indicating the material violates local laws.”
2. Only the country they received the request to remove content from will be blocked, other countries will be able to see the content. I like this one because it means if say MSN Spaces China puts in the takedown, that blogger can still be read elsewhere.
3. The blogger being censored will be notified that this was because of government regulations.
It is nice to see a formal policy announced in plain language. Keep the suits away from drawing up guidelines like these and the world will be a better place. During one Search Champs non-NDA session we learned that Microsoft is trying to move towards producing at least some easier to read policies.
Did this post make you go hmm?
