Entrepreneur lobbying for a second season of Firefly |
An entrepreneur named Ace Underhill is trying to piece together a second season of Firefly. The problem is Joss Whedon, creator of Firefly and Serenity hasn’t heard of him yet, which Underhill was interviewed as saying:
If he contacts me and says, ‘Hey, we’re not interested in Firefly anymore’ or ‘I’m not interested in Firefly anymore,’ then I will abandon the project, and essentially it’s over at that point. I’m not looking to create a cheap knockoff of the series without Joss’ input. So that’s not going to happen. … If he’s not going to be involved, then there is no project. There’s no point.”
Maybe these two guys will hook up and move Underhill’s plan further which is go direct to pay-per-view model over the internet. Underhill claims that he has received rate quotes from agents of some of the Serenity actors, but not the lead: Nathan Fillion.
I’m not sure where a second season of Firefly could go unless it was set in a time before the Serenity movie. With that scenario viewers would know what happens to characters and I’m not sure how exciting that would be, think Star Wars Episodes I-III. And if you go after the Serenity movie then where to next? Whedon sort of wrote himself into a corner with some of the characters but not the ship itself, kind of like Lucas did with Episodes 4-6 of Star Wars.
Intriguing though that somebody is seriously trying to make a second seaons of a series which seemed doomed from the day it started only to be resurrected as the feature movie Serenity [hmm Serenity review: A+] which did $25+ million in gross theater receipts and received good reviews.
