ZDNet is looking for a few good bloggers:

If you’ve got great credentials, good writing ability, and passionate authenticity, we’d like to hear from you … And yes, we’ll pay for steady, high-quality blogging.

I felt like I was with them up until the last part. I’m not sure my schedule would allow me to commit “steady” to anything beyond our own projects, but I would like to contribute posts to ZDNet once in awhile. It might surprise folks considering my position on Blog Networks (which ZDNet is looking more like by adding additional topic blogs), but I actually like contributing certain pieces to third party publications. For example, I submitted to Performancing an original piece that they published yesterday (thank you) on Blog Network writer retention. Speaking of performancing, they now allow users to have their own blogs so no more submissions necessary. I really like their clean layout over there and wanted to contribute something.

So should I drop the ZDnet folks a line and say I’d like to submit to them periodically if they were interested? Guess it never hurts to ask if they could use a very part time contributor. Money is a nice extra incentive, but I’m guessing I’d make more money adding the posts here and our other web properties than what they would pay me. Of course that’s if they would even want my contributions to begin with, so better not get ahead of myself.

What do you think?

  1. Go for it… Ziff Davis is a heavy hitter to put it mildly. You have a different “voice” than most of their writers, which would be a good change. There are still some who feel you haven’t really made it as a technology writer unless you’re getting published by ZD. Good luck!

  2. Try it. The worst that can happen is a “No, thank you”.

Unless they could fool you into signing a contract that chains your hands to the keyboard 24/7 feeding you gruel through a straw.

  4. […] Last Friday I wrote about a couple high profile blogging opportunities and pondered if I should drop the ZDNet folks a line and say I would likely be interested. After a couple encouraging reader comments (thank you), I decided ok, why not fire off an email and see what they had to say? […]
