Some are rolling out the “it’s beta, folks” rope and others are looking to put Chitika’s neck in one over the latest Chitika disappointment:

Chitika has announced that November earnings audits - and thus payments - will not be completed until January 15th. And not only that, they announced this Saturday, December 31st at 6:20pm, a day after publishers are expecting to see those earnings hit their PayPal accounts (based on net 30).

This is definitely disappointing to publishers, especially when faced with the entire auditing issue on October earnings that saw publishers lose as much as 90% of their total income

Beta or not, I’m very glad I stayed away from joining and/or recommending this program to others. This program had a strange aura about it that made me nervous. I really like their concept of the visitor being able to navigate products right from the eMinMalls without leaving the site, but the way so many bloggers jumped aboard this one and some who bragged about how much money they were making from a relatively unheard of company just didn’t sit right with me.

It’s one thing if Microsoft or Google or Yahoo rolls out a contextual ad program — we know that they have the $$$ bones $$$ to back it up — but who has ever heard of Chitika? I saw one blogger awhile back call them Shitika.

This is an affiliate beware era.

  1. But who’d ever heard of x, y, or z before they became big? There was a lot of hype, and people have been jumping up and down ranting ever since becuase of it. I’m quite happy to keep it in test mode, making some revenue, until further notice.

  2. […] Quantcast - third party tracking code, JavaScript to track traffic stats. After yesterday’s Hmmcast, the VP of Quantcast Mark Schulze dropped me an email. Said he’d like to talk to me on the phone today. Right on, call away, Mark. Chitika eminimalls - applied for advertising network with eMinimalls and will run non-contextual and if that goes well maybe try them in place of Adsense for a trial. Chitika has been around long enough now that we’re willing to give their program a chance (for those who remember my prior comments, time can bring an affiliate program more credibility). Chitika approved us before this post was done and now we’re contemplating a good place to place the eMiniMalls. [non-contextual trial] […]
