Libsyn adds optional Kiptronic podcasting sponsorship option

blogs and podcasting, finance — by TDavid @ 9:26 am PST

Potentially good news — if the program doesn’t suck — on the podcasting front for those who have been wondering how they might possibly be able to make a few extra bones from their podcasts.

Libsyn podcast hosting offers way for podcasters to make money from sponsorship with Kiptronic

Check your email fellow Libsynners for the “libsyn + Kiptronic Sponsorship Program” announcement:

How much you make, how the spots sound, when they are played, and how much you get paid are all up to you: an agreement must be reached by both parties regarding the terms of any sponsorship before it goes into effect. You can do spoken endorsements in your own voice, or the spots can be provided by the sponsor. You can opt for the audio to be inserted into the beginning or the end of each episode, and you can negotiate your own prices for each spot. Because the sponsor’s promo is inserted dynamically upon file download, you can have multiple sponsors with rotating spots, and make money from your entire archived catalog of episodes. You can have ads in your own voice, or choose to use spots created by the sponsors. Best of all, You set the price, you set the terms, and you always have final say as to whether a sponsorship goes through.

I looked through the program and didn’t see a list of advertisers, but did see other podcasters (which I guess is the deal?). So this is a promo swapping program among podcasters. Not quite what I believed it to be by the email headline. What would be really cool is if it were something that was filled with non-podcasting sponsors. Or maybe I missed this list?

Still, an automated promo swapping service is a good idea.

I know listeners might be thinking: oh no, here come the ads, but I’ve long maintained if podcasters don’t somehow find a way to monetize their efforts they won’t last. Very few people will do regular podcasts just for the fun of it, especially if it is costing them money. The fact that these promo spots will be at the beginning or end means the content won’t otherwise be disturbed and is an additional plus.

Some podcasters have been able to make money by having tip jars or getting advertisers directly, but from what I’m seen this seems primarily like a small percentage. The hope, I guess, is that the podcast will drive listeners back to the website or blog which is usually monetized by a contextual ad program like Adsense. The problem with this strategy is that there are so many places out there to get the podcast directly that a (large?) percentage of listeners don’t get back to the website.

If you love to listen to podcasts don’t fear the ad reaper. Those interested in this program can login through their Libsyn account. The only thing required is selecting an email which Kiptronic promises not to spam.

While we have sponsors ready to participate in this program, we would like to exhibit to them the range and diversity of content that you all are currently creating. This will result in the best deal for you publishers, and will highlight the value of your creation to the sponsors.
