PSP suffering identity crisis in stores, Nintendo DS gains |
Nothing like confusing customers at the store to hamper sales. Sony UMD sales have been doing much better than I ever thought they would, but most PSP titles are UMD movies, not games, which according to the a source for revo-europe.com could be negatively impacting sales:
Nintendo have had a fairly successful year, with a growth of 15 percent since last February. With their current market value of $18,565, Nintendo are worth the fourth highest amount of money in the industry, trailing only behind Microsoft, Sony and Vivendi.
The report also points out that the gaming industry has grown by 7 percent. Nice. I wonder if the store profit on the UMD titles are greater than the games? Could the UMDs be selling better than the games and that’s why retailers are stocking those more prominently? Or is there confusion in the chain about them being just another format like DVD? Whatever the case, Nintendo continues to make all the right moves in the portable space, despite the fact that they still aren’t as internet friendly as the PSP.
Ironically, as I write this my current favorite game right now is a PSP title. A full review is coming.
