[...] Microsoft Watch memories This blog has had at least one link from Microsoft Watch over the years. I remember that fondly because at the time they sent some noticeable traffic to this post. I also believe it helped get me noticed by Microsoft and be invited to Search Champs v4. Don’t know for sure on that one, but the timing seemed right and I’m appreciative even if it wasn’t instrumental on some level. If you were responsible for that link, Mary Jo Foley, thank you very much. [...]

[...] In this same vein, Nate Weinberg points to a blog post by “TDavid” titled 8 things Microsoft can do in 2006 to better compete against Google search and Adsense which if I may summarize, is “fish or cut bait.” Excerpt of number 1: 1. Launch Adcenter for websites worldwide ASAP (no beta invite only garbage). Why can’t I sign up for this and add to our websites now? Why is Adcenter still in pilot status? If this isn’t done in Q1-2006, they can pretty much forget about this doing anything unless their pay structure blows away all competitors. Adsense and YPN are gaining market share that MSN loses every day. [...]

Some very good ideas. Forget Search Champs, they should offer you a job in the division.

[...] MakeYouGoHmm has a list of eight things Microsoft can do to compete with Google and AdSense in the coming year. Its an excellent post, with good ideas like MSN Spaces integration and opening AdCenter to all (no invite-only bull). And the best one? “Get the freaking checkbook” out! Yahoo is making you look like fools. There are plenty of great websites out there that can be had for very little and bring oodles of users. So buy ‘em! [...]

I agree that #8 is a longshot, but it's the wildcard that needs more discussion.

And lol, have they really released Xbox360? Even Microsoft employees in this area (Microsoft's backyard) are running to Canada to buy systems. I don't know if that qualifies as a release when the supply clearly doesn't meet the demand. I guess there is always eBay.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Hmm...I don't see MS allowing #8. The reason why MS can't do it is because if they do they will be held accountable 10x more than Google would be. It's not fair, but that's the way it is.

Microsoft is late in delivering and I really hope that changes. The only problem is that when they do deliver (slowly) there are issues with what they ship and that has to change. They might be able to change this around in 2006 because the perception will be that they are releasing a lot quickly. Xbox 360 in November. IE7, Vista, Office, Messenger, Spyware...all these things will be released relatively close together, and people might forget how long it took.
