Wikistress defcon 5 |
I’ve said a few heavy things about wikis on this blog over time, but my general opinion on the Wikipedia is positive overall.

I think the cabal who make up the regular Wikipedians appear somewhat harsh to newcomers and that’s based primarily on surfing/reading wikipedia article edit discussions. But then again the veterans at many popular sites can seem hardcore to newbies.
I like the fact that some of them can poke fun at themselves with their Wikistress icons and the text “Even more stressed than that? Too many edit wars? Get Wikistress meter 5″ (pictured above)
Seriously, I like what they are trying to do at Wikipedia. Until tonight upon some deeper inspection I falsely believed I already had a user account there, so I created a new account. Off I go to the Wikipedia help page
Even though I’ve been on this glorious web for 10 years, going on 11, signing up for new sites every day, I’m always a newbie somewhere. Another thing I love about the web!
My current newbie Wikistress defcon level: 1, what’s yours?
Did this post make you go hmm?

defcon 4. Worked with a customer of mine to try to create a definition of their product that was fair and informative, but kept getting labeled “too marketing-ish” by the editors until they pulled it entirely and we gave up. Comparing our definition to those of other similar competitors’ products left us scratching our heads and wondering whence came the editors’ basis for that criticism. We included a list of features and some history, but it was all in a neutral voice. Throws up hands and swears.
