PSP charger issues, anyone else? |
I bought the PSP on launch day and recently started noticing that in order to charge it I had to wrap the cord around the PSP as shown below.

I noticed new AC power supplies cost around $35. Anybody else had this problem and have a different suggestion besides buying a new AC adapter? I can charge from the car without having to do this so my thinking is it is the yellow female plug on the adapter that is the issue.
Did this post make you go hmm?

Same problem, if you move it around, it will stop charging…

Yes; this problem happens to people a lot, and it is the yellow plug.
I just rest it on a slightly raised edge, like an eraser. Also I use a USB mini-B + charging cable that works every time. I’ve been considering finding out if the obvious docking connection ever had a dock made for it.
But right now my power button has snapped off.
DO NOT TRY TO REPAIR IT YOURSELF! actually do, it’s fun; however do not remove the original board in the PSP, the connectors will not snap into a new board like the PS1 did, instead un-solder the switch from the connected board and the new board and resolder the working part on, all without disconnecting anything.
That said, I already disconnected mine so now I need to find some way to get it fixed.

put the cord in then turn it left so that the wire is facing the left way. then it will charge without having to put the wire over the screen.(if u have a carrying case put psp inside, the one that comes with the giga or value pack).

I don’t quite have THIS particular problem, but my PSP has a semi-major problem.
I use the Mini-USB+power cable to charge it. When I plug it in, the Orange LED light turns on, however, it doesn’t charge. Somebody told me it had to do with the battery thinking it was charged or something, but I’m not sure. They said I had to kill the battery, then plug it in and it should work. How do I do that?

[…] I’ve been psyched for Skype on the PSP with firmware v3.90 until I learned that it will only work with PSP-2000 systems and not the launch PSP (PSP-1000). Pay attention to the comments of numerous PSP-1000 owners in the comments who feel like they’re getting the shaft. Me? A little bummed, but more disappointed in the PSP cord wrap issue: […]

@eggatron I had a similar problem to you, and the way i managed to get mine working again was to remove the fuse from the back of the charger and then insert a 5 amp fuse in, yes i know this is normally something no idiot should do, however i think that just to cover sony’s asses they have lowered the charger down to a 3 amp when it doesn’t really need that much resistance a 5 amp should do fine, this fixed the problem for me and also my psp now charges quicker. i have obv only done this with the one psp and it is not tested so i would recommend looking this up further before taking my advice. use at your own risk as i take no responsibilty.

I have the same problem. First it happened with a new battery. I could get that working by fooling around some times. Then I could not get it to work with the charger. But I managed to get it working with my USB but ONLY when in USB mode.
Now I have same problem with my other battern. Neither battery has any charge so they won’t go into USB mode anymore and can’t charge.
Sony have seriously fucked up on this one.

Have had the same problem. Brought my PSP soon after release, and it was working fine until a little while ago, in that I had to wiggle the wire around for it to work. I tried using my AC adapter, but there was the same problem, and eventually I couldn’t get the orange charge light to stay on for longer than a few minutes.
I ended up buying a new battery, but there was still the same problem. So I went and brought a new AC adapter, but that didn’t help either. I’m currently back to using the cord-wrapping technique already mentioned, which works OK for both USB and AC adapter, but it can be a bit fickle and takes some tries to get the PSP charging; if you knock it then it stops charging too.
Does anyone have an answer for this problem yet? And does it only happen with the older models? Mine’s a PSP-1001. A permanent solution would be great, too.

This isn’t neccessarily the same problem as you guys but
I felt I should post it here too. Sorry if this has been asked before x.x
My PSP charger was bitten by a mouse and it left the inside exposed. If I wrap the exposed part with tape and I charge, will anything bad result from it?

I also have the same problem, psp won’t charge unless it stays in a fix place, just a certain move then it won’t charge again.
But if this might help in trying to find out the solution for this,
i also tried connecting it even without battery but it totally won’t have power where it should…
be waiting for the answer on this problem as well, i’ll try to figure it also if ever i’ll post it here…
