60 Minutes special focuses on internet gambling

gaming — by TDavid @ 10:24 pm PST

Just watched this piece on internet gambling on 60 Minutes and the MGM and other casinos want to get into the internet gambling scene. If I heard correcty, an estimated 80% of the online gambling is coming out of the United States where it isn’t legal.

Basically the terrestrial casino point of view: if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. One comment I found particularly curious: that when the US gets an “enlightened” President and Attorney General internet gambling will be regulated, taxed and legalized.

I believe the wheels have already begun to turn and wrote about this in August where Wireless gambling was approved in Nevada.

Did this post make you go hmm?

  1. Thank You for your articles and posting! Thank goodness you are there keeping a finger on the pulse for us!

I am so disturbed by the entire political scene these days. We voted and put these people in office. How fast a bit of money from a lobby group can make them forget.

Why turn this law and issue into a tax dollar waste, when we could adopt the same approach as the private interest casino’s. If you can’t beat em, join em…. make this a source of revenue coming in, not going out. How many tax dollars have already been wasted on such a needless “Big Brother” issue so far?

Should I choose to have someone look out for my welfare I will turn to someone of my choice, Thank YOU. I do not need the government making these choices for me. Lets look at this from another angle for a moment.

If I choose to declare my Internet gambling as a religious practice, will my constitutional rights become violated if I go on line and wager $20.00? I ask my God to show me the answer to a question I am struggling with. I ask him to let me win if the answer is yes, and to let me loose if the answer is no. I pray to him for this divine direction, and then go to my computer to find his divine answer. OK.. sounds a bit absurd, but then, there are many absurd religious practices I feel are absurd being protected each and every day. The handling of Poisonous Snakes to prove faith, the taking of chemicals that could be deadly for religious enlightenment, the tossing of bones to find answers people are seeking, walking on red hot coals, fasting until death is near, I can go on and on, you get the picture.

Yeahhhhhh this entire issue makes me go…. HMMMMMMMM!
