Google to gobble Riya before it even has a public launch? |
That’s the rumour that Om Malik and others are floating: that Google is interested in picture recognition software Riya that is still publically unavailable.

A few people have seen it and raved about Riya, but some of those same people have raved about other software/services that I’ve found to be totally overhyped. To name a couple: sphere and filmloop.
I am putting this in highly rumored and unconfirmed category. “Your inquiry is about rumor and speculation and we’re not able to respond to questions of this type,” Google spokesperson Barry Schnitt told me. I have left message for Riya founder Munjal Shah and also emailed him, but thus far no response. Riya, as a company hasn’t even launched, and is supposed to have a coming out event at Tech Crunch’s BBQ this friday!
If Google is interested then the time to buy before it might become popular could keep the price down, still the price of $40 million is being put out there. That’s pocket change for Google who’s stock has now crested the $400 mark, but still seems like a gamble on something the market hasn’t tested. Google has the money to make gambles like this, they are the clearly one of the whales in the tech sector.
How long before somebody creates a fantasy sport game wagering on startup to flip?
Did this post make you go hmm?
