Ok, now Derailed was a twisting ride |
After running some errands this evening we took a sidetrack to the 5:15pm showing of Derailed (Rated R) starring Jennifer Aniston. I knew absolutely zero about the plot of this movie going in but my wife seemed game for it. I’ve enjoyed Aniston’s other movies and her 10 season stint on Friends, so why not?
It starts with a prison scene and an inmate flashing back. This cliched start had me thinking it was going to be all downhill from there, but my fears weren’t completely realized. Charles, a happily married man with a daughter with a severe case of diabetes is the main character. Charles rides the train to work and doesn’t have the $9 for fare and Lucinda (Aniston) gives him the fare. This snowballs over the next 20 minutes of the film into the two planning to have an affiar.
The couple end up in this seedy motel and are about to get it on — darn, almost thought we’d see Aniston show some real skin but no such luck — when a thug breaks in and proceeds to break noses and rape Aniston. From there he starts to extort the main character for more money. Aniston isn’t what she seems and neither are several other plot turns. This movie surprised me and I actually liked it more than Doom. It starts too slowly, but it picks up pace nicely from there. It’s not an action flick, more like a psychological thriller. Rotten Tomatoes critics gave it a miserable 20%, Box Office Mojo readers found it merely an average C. My grade: B
