Google Analytics for free |
Scoble and a few others on their hopeless no GYM (Google, Yahoo, Microsoft) self-imposed hiatus, probably won’t be writing about this one. Guess their readers will get GYM news elsewhere. Good for the rest of us not in “detox.”
So Google is making their Urchin Analytics program available for five million impressions a month for free. If you setup an AdWords account with $5 USD, then there is no limit on the pages that can be tracked. This is the Urchin 5 Analytics software which Google has renamed Google Analytics:
Google Analytics tells you everything you want to know about how your visitors found you and how they interact with your site. You’ll be able to focus your marketing resources on campaigns and initiatives that deliver ROI, and improve your site to convert more visitors
Worried Google will use your data or the data overall to better understand how much you are willing to pay for ads, based on conversions. Google said that’s definitely not done, nor are there any plans to do that. Nor are there any plans to tap into the data as a means of improving regular search results or to identify “bad” sites, Google said.
I added the code. The docs said it may take up to six twelve hours for any real data to materialize. Will have more to say, screenshots, etc, once I’ve seen more.

Heh, looking at http://tech.memeorandum.com I don’t think that Google is having any trouble getting the message out.

I’m giving it a spin too. It took me about 2 hours before I could finally get into the site, though - looks like even Google wasn’t ready to be Slashdotted, Dugg and Memeorandumized all at once. My thoughts here:

[…] I wasn’t all that excited about Google Video the first time around and their last few other new project launches have been very subpar (the abysmal Google Analytics launch most recently). […]
