Welcome Back Kotter and 100 other show’s reruns coming to AOL for free |
The new service is being called In2TV and is coming to browsers in January 2006, courtesy of AOL and Warner Brothers. Episodes of 100 different shows will be available. For free. Ad supported.
Eric Frankel, president of domestic cable distribution for Warner Bros., said In2TV would launch with interactive games and six channels: LOL, the laugh-out-loud comedy channel; Dramarama; Heroes and Horrors; Rush, with “Kung Fu” and other action programming; and Vintage, which will feature “F Troop,” the once-popular western “Maverick,” and “Growing Pains,” in whose later episodes starred a young Leonardo DiCaprio.
I can’t get that Welcome Back Kotter theme song out of my head. Welcome Back … the dreams are your ticket back (guitar) … maybe I should be humming welcome back, AOL, because this is the first encouraging news to come out of their camp in awhile.
The next question is how much more content will this shoehorn for iTunes? We can thank Apple for opening the floodgates for a pay model, but is it possible we will someday thank AOL for going the ad-supported route? And what about TV DVD sales?
Am looking forward to checking this out. Very interesting and a bit unexpected development.
Did this post make you go hmm?
