MSN Spaces growing by 3+ million blogs a month |
At the end of June 2005, we learned that over 15 million MSN Spaces blogs had been created.
This past weekend at Seattle Mind I learned there was now 30 million MSN Spaces blogs. That’s a growth of over three million blogs per month!
Let’s break down these numbers, using three million blogs a month as the target figure:
3,000,000+ blogs created per month
= 100,000 blogs created per day
= 4,166 blogs created per hour
= 69 blogs created per minute (rounded)
About 1 MSN Spaces blog created somewhere in the world every second of every day! Wow. That has to blow away any other blog software out there. Yeah, I know MSN Spaces is lame for the hardcore bloggers, doesn’t allow much individual customization, the numbers don’t tell us how many are active blogs (probably a very small percentage), no first party scripts allowed, no hosted domains like Blogger allows, etc, but their success among every day netizens cannot be denied. These numbers are jaw dropping.
Sooner or later things have to slow down though, right? They can’t keep adding over three million blogs per month. How long will this last? Sure, a significant percentage of these blogs are garbage and/or personal stuff that will probably only appeal to family and close friends, but these overall numbers remain impressive.
So how many blogs are there out there total? My guess is well over 100 million. There has to be if MSN Spaces has 30 million themselves. How many MSN Spaces blogs are you subscribed to in your regular reading list? I have a half-dozen or so in there.
