Google stops counting, plays “more comprehensive” card |
One of the things I like about Google is their tenacity. These guys (and gals like Marissa Mayer) are super smart and though sometimes they make some bizarre moves (like buying blogger and sitting on it for so long without doing anything really significant), they keep the rest of us pundits out here almost constantly guessing. Take, for example, how they are handling the whole “our index is larger than your index” big penis contest sparring with Yahoo.
The index wars are over, at least in terms of raw counting. Google has taken its ball and gone home. The company has decided to take the McDonalds like number off its website - “8 billion pages served…”, and instead simply claim to be more comprehensive. “Google is the most comprehensive search engine by far,” Mayer told me. Can she prove that? Not easily. But there you have it.
I guess this means Google has zippered the snake.
Batelle doesn’t stop there, though. No, he writes Yahoo and gets their take which basically is congratulating Google for removing a “meaningless number.”
Love these search engine scrums!
Today is also their 7th birthday, so Happy Birthday Google! Be sure to save some cake for us, no forget the cake, it’s too fattening, just keep sending that golden traffic.
Did this post make you go hmm?
