TiVo $150 early termination fee |

TiVO is now forcing some new subscribers to be with them for at least one year, or pay a $150 penalty, thanks to a contract change on September 6, 2005. TiVo didn’t do a very good job of making it clear that it primarily is for folks who receive a rebate, not for those who just want to go month-to-month on the contract. People hate fine print.
The whole rebate scene is pretty questionable, IMO. A rebate that requires paying for a subscription agreement for an entire year? That’s not really a rebate, is it? Or maybe it is, technically, I’m no lawyer. If their service was so great, they wouldn’t need to play these fine print games. The bloggers that are bashing them, even if some are leaving out the fact that it only applies to certain rebate-toting (mostly) customers, still are on the right track.
Smooth move, TiVo, I used to look up to you and was a satisfied customer for years. Not any more.
Did this post make you go hmm?
