Google’s “newfound powers” |
Google has released something new and experimental as part of their personalized search feature.
At that point, your options would normally be to 1) ignore that result, or 2) report the url to Google via our spam report form. But if you’re in this experiment, you’ll have newfound powers. Click the “Remove result” link and with one click you can drop that url from your search results.
So who has the “newfound powers”? Those using Opera don’t. The “Remove result” link doesn’t show up in Opera, but shows up in IE and Firefox. So if you use the personalized search and spend your browser time in Opera then you’ll need to switch camps for this feature/functionality. I didn’t test to see if it shows up in Safari.
My experience
I like the idea of being able to remove spam and other errata from search results. When I clicked on the link in IE it just repositioned the cursor. I refreshed the page and saw the following message:
Results have been omitted at your request. If you’d like, you can repeat your search with the omitted results included.
Coolness!
I hope they put this featur out there for all users, and also include in the Google Blog search (it’s badly needed there), not just folks using personalized search. Thanks for the head’s up, Matt.
