Houston, we have a date! And it’s not Black Friday (the shopping day after Thanksgiving). Thank goodness for that, I might actually have a chance at getting one of these systems without preordering with the announced launch date.

In an announcement at the Tokyo Game Show, the company said the new Xbox–Microsoft’s entrant in the next-generation console wars–would hit store shelves in North America on Nov. 22, in Europe on Dec. 2 and in Japan on Dec. 10. The company clearly wanted to take advantage of the holiday shopping rush just before and after Thanksgiving in the United States.

Marking calendar now for Tuesday, November 22 at 12:01 am PST. Wonder if I’ll have to be one of the gaming dorks down there at midnight aching to get my hands on that sleek nextgen gaming system. Damn you, Microsoft! (I mean this in a good way, of course).

And there’s no way I’m going for the $299 version unless it’s my only option to get one.

I disagree. If they have a turnaround year it will be 2007 or later. 2006 is going to be another “wait and see” year for them, at least the first three quarters. People are tired — at least I am — of wait and see announcements from Microsoft. […]
