eBay interested in Skype buyout for $2-3 billion? |
The Wall Street Journal is reporting (subscription only, grrr), citing unnamed sources (of course!), that eBay is in talks to buy out Skype for $2-3 billion. Others who have been talking to Skype:
Skype has talked with a few other interested buyers, including News Corp., Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc., the newspaper said, but none of these talks have led to deals.
Fascinating that eBay could be a player here. Auction and Skype integration? Makes me go hmm. If this is a deal truly on the table then Skype should take this deal because as cool as it is it still isn’t worth $2-3 billion, IMO, especially with Google Talk now in the game.
Update 9:53 am PST: Some more thoughts have come to me on this one. Live auctions via Skype videoconferencing! Would cut down on those last minute sniping programs. Not for every auction, of course, but an option for special items.
Update 10:04 am PST: added a question mark to the title to fit the speculative nature of the story. Still, it really gets the mind whirring about how eBay might use Skype if it indeed bought them.
