Gilligan, Bob Denver, dies at 70 |
The show was about castaways on an island that almost escaped again and again and Gilligan, played by gangly Bob Denver, was always to blame for screwing up the rescue. With sad irony, complications from cancer have claimed the Skipper’s “Lil’ buddy” sending him off to that gigantic island in the sky:
Bob Denver, the veteran character actor who poked fun at the counterculture with a pair of zany but iconic sitcom roles, died Friday due to complications from cancer treatment. He was 70 years old.
DVD sets for Gilligan’s Island are available up until Season 3 — including a set to get all three via Amazon for like 85 bones. Might be a good time to hit the store and buy at least one of those seasons and have a Gilligan fest for good times.
Who can’t sing that song from memory? Sherwood Schwartz could really come up with the jingles … the Brady Bunch theme song is equally memorable.

It’s something I’ve pondered before but haven’t written about in significant detail. To me, the system is currently in a state of decay. Historically this has been a lucrative royalty avenue for actors, writers, directors, etc, but I think the way it is currently is going will either die or change radically.
