Kazaa loses copyright infringement case in Australia |
Not a huge surprise, but Sharman Networks, the folks who bought Kazaa from Skype founders, have come out on the losing side of the Australian courts in a copyright infringement lawsuit.
[Federal Court Judge Murray Wilcox] found six of the 10 defendants, including Sharman, its Sydney-based chief executive Nikki Hemming, as well as Altnet, a Sharman software partner, guilty of copyright infringement and ordered them to pay 90 percent of the record industry’s costs in the case.
Of course the RIAA is pleased and Sharman is appealing the ruling. If the appeal is a bust, this could spell the end of Kazaaa. They have lost steam to BitTorrent which doesn’t require a centralized server. I’ve still never downloaded or used Kazaa.
Did this post make you go hmm?
