Hitachi releases first TB DVD recorder |

230,000 yen ($2,091.10 USD) for the world’s first terabyte DVD recorder which uses twin 500 GB hard drives.
Japan’s Hitachi Ltd. (TOKSE: 6752.T) on Wednesday unveiled the world’s first hard disk drive/DVD recorder that can store one terabyte of data, or enough to record about 128 hours of high-definition digital broadcasting.
The article also says that Hitachi is concerned that it only has about 3% of the market. Seems like this first generation TB DVD recorder is on the pricey side. Why not just buy four 300 GB drives and chain them together? You can buy an external 300 GB drive for around 200 bones and an internal one for 100 bones or so less. Perhaps not as compact, but a lot cheapter than two grand. Am I missing something here?
