Tablet PC ignored in Word for Blogger plugin? |

Lots of chatter today about the Word for Blogger plugin that allows Microsoft Word users to post to their Blogger-based blog inside Word.
First off, let me say that this tool is well designed, easy to use and intuitive. I have four different blogger-based blogs including one that is FTP’d to my own space via a special FTP user with blogger. Two of the other three blogspot hosted blogs are basically test blogs and not anything I have used or updated very often. From within Word on my M1400 tablet I was able to successfully post to my software, scripting & website blogger-based blog without consulting the help file. However, as the message at that link says, it didn’t transfer the inked portion of the message (pictured above).
Bummer
I’m somewhat surprised Scoble didn’t say anything about the (lack of) Tablet PC integration. He’s like the head Tablet cheerleader (you let us down, Robert when you don’t mention stuff like this). Yeah, it’s very cool that Blogger released this free Word plugin (or add-in, whichever you prefer), but there are a million plus tablet users out here and we still don’t have any decent Tablet blogging tools.
At least that I’ve found anyway.
If you are a developer of a blog-related tool that is Tablet PC slate friendly (no keyboard) for posting to various different blog software then please use the comments and tell me about it. I didn’t mean to overlook any developer or project.
Wait — what am I doing giving other developers/vendors ideas? I should just code something and stop asking for this. Still, I wonder …
Who will be the first vendor to make it easy to blog from a Tablet PC (slate)? I’m surprised that MSN Spaces doesn’t have this yet. They are the logical first choice. Mike Torres? Scoble? Somebody from the Tablet team? Hilton Locke?
Other bloggers commenting on Word for Blogger add-in:
Tablet users aren’t alone, as C.K. Sample III notes that the add-in doesn’t work with the Mac version of Word:
I’m tired of there still not being a Picasa for Mac, and I’m very ticked off that this new cutting edge technology, this Blogger for Word, only works with old Word on old 2000 / XP. There’s a much newer OS out here. Not Vista. Tiger. //rant off
Jason Shellen who spent a lot of time working on this add-in explains that he tried to find a good Mac developer and came up short. He is looking for Mac developer recommendations. Same thing for Tablet PC, Jason?
RJ Carpenter is impressed.
Jeremy Keith posts that Tim Bray once wrote that any word processor that doesn’t have a ‘Blog This’ button is “just broken” and Jeremy notes that Blogger has now “fixed Microsoft Word.”
Tom McKay wonders if anybody else has used it. I have Tom. My detailed notes are above. I noticed a couple other bloggers ask the same question. Just curious here: is it because these folks don’t have Word or they just didn’t have time to check themselves? Takes less than five minutes to burn a test post and draw your own conclusions.
The Blog Herald thinks there will be “no doubt the spam bloggers will be cheering.“
Did this post make you go hmm?

I have tried it out, and I like what I have seen. Love the fact that you get Word Spelling built into my new Blog tool (i.e. Word!). Another thing that is missing is tables but I am sure these things will come in future.
TIA

Check out BLInk (http://www.thedatafarm.com/blink.aspx). It is a tool to blog with ink. I have not used it though. I am still waiting for my Tablet.

I have tried and linked to BLInk previously, see: http://www.makeyougohmm.com/20050128/1381/
… and the author clearly defines it as: “It has been written as proof of concept for blogging with ink while retaining two of the most important elements of weblogging: legible text and hyperlinking.”
Unfortunately the effort — though it was promising — was more an experiment than a complete tool for blogging with a slate tablet, IMO. Maybe by the time you get your tablet, Vasanth, a more advanced version will be available. Thanks for the suggestion though, it is much appreciated, as is the work Ms. Lerman has done.

TDavid, you have good ideas. I hope you submitted them through the Blogger suggestion tool!

It would be wonderful if someone could create a blog tool extension for OneNote. Although I guess you’d still be missing hyperlinking.

I have tested the word for blogger plugin and although it took me a while to get used to it, I have to say that it is now a plugin that I cant live without. Well worth using in my opinion.
