Google maps + Pedometer = Gmaps Pedometer |

While on the subject of pedometers, fitness, exercise and health here’s a program: Gmaps Pedometer that blends Google Maps with pedometer like information. Handy for joggers, walkers and the like who want to see how far it is to run from one location to another. It provides calories burned but it doesn’t really seem to take into account vertical space. For example, going uphill one would burn more calories. Still, a pretty cool use of Google Maps.

Sounds like you want SportSim.

It does a much better job at keeping track of your routes and it does take into consideration elevation and heartrate (if you have a HR monitor).

SportSim only runs on Windows, appears to require GPS equipment and costs money. It’s barely comparable.

If you’re looking for a gmap pedometer that does elevation: this one is free. Not only that, but it has routes around the country.
