I am currently looking for a good offline RSS Reader for my Tablet PC. Have several RSS readers installed for when there is an internet connection, but I’d like something for when there isn’t a connection that I can read from the gym while riding the cycle. At least that’s my plan. This way I can keep up on my RSS reading in the morning. Have to try and maximize my time as I’m going to be exercising every morning and this is cutting into my RSS reading time.

What I want the target RSS Reader to be able to do is at least the following:

- be internet aware so that when there is internet connection it will automatically grab the most recent RSS feeds
- allow search across all saved feeds
- allow blogging to multiple Wordpress blogs from within the RSS reader

Would be nice if it also includes (but not required):
- support for ink (Tablet PC)

Developers/authors feel free to put your own links here. I have seen the Wikipedia RSS list

Any good suggestions?

  1. I love Onfolio. www.onfolio.com. It’s much more than a RSS reader. Too bad it doesn’t have ink support.

  2. Onfolio is running a special until August 8 for the personal edition for free. I downloaded that one and am checking it out. Doesn’t seem from a quick glance to have WP posting support, also it didn’t seem to want to refresh some of my 350+ RSS feeds.

  3. That onfolio edition has problems with firefox, does not sync up my bloglines (yes, I researched that extra tool), can’t easily be shut down and has problems doing it’s job. :)

And yes, as my tablet is about to arrive: More ink related software please ;))))
My requests are mainly sync with Bloglines not the ‘mark everything read’ but synchronise the state of items read or not. For the rest, that is not that important for me, I can tell it to update.

(At the moment I am thinking about splitting my bloglist into ‘to be read on tablet’ and ‘needs to be read online’ because most of the readers do not work in this syncing mode in a way I could use it.)

  6. […] I got tired of using Thunderbird for my RSS viewing. Yes, it works great if you just read a handful of feeds, but I’ve been adding a bunch lately and I’m looking for more. But back tracking a bit: I did some poking around on TDavid’s site and Scoble’s site to see what they were using. Scoble uses FeedDemon and TDavid is still looking for program that works well with tablet view and whatnot. At the recomendation of TDavid, also took a look at what Wikipedia was linking to. After looking at a couple dozen programs, I downloaded Jet Brains Omea Reader, FeedDemon, and GreatNews RSS Reader. GreatNews I dumped right away because I didn’t like the way is displayed each blog as a collection of newspaper articles. FeedDemon and Omea Reader I like better, however FeedDemon costs money to own and the interface was not to my liking. Specifically, it was hard to delete posts and when I did delete them, they would come back. So I dumped it yesterday, leaving Omea Reader (OR) as the winner, for now. So what does this have to do with trying to get Scoble to read me. Well, I’m getting there. FeedDemon massively populated their program with tons of blogs. I wanted more, so I turned to Scoble who is also complaining about how many feeds he just has to read. So I downloaded his OPML file and imported it into OR. I’m not quite sure how many feeds he reads, but I just imported almost 16,000 posts…so I’m guessing it’s a lot. Here’s the thing though. Looking at just the first dozen feeds, Scoble doesn’t read all tech blogs. Some feeds are updated several times a day, some every couple days, and some every couple weeks or even months. It seems to me that Scoble has a pretty good cross section of blogs. […]
