current.tv is launching, stating via the Google blog:
Today marks the launch of Current TV, which will let television viewers (like you, for example) broadcast their own videos to the world. Amidst this content contributed by viewers, Current TV produces segments which use Google Zeitgeist data to highlight trends in what people search for using Google.
Sounds like a cool idea, but when I visited the site it still says “coming soon” for upload functionality and they are suggesting to email them videos in the interim. Ever tried emailing somebody a large file? Not always the most pleasant experience. Guess this one is still not completely released. Channel 125 for Comcast viewers in the Seattle area, but when I tried to view I was told we weren’t “authorized” to view. So this one costs extra? Hmm, if it doesn’t come with standard cable it might be tough to take off …
And yes, current.tv has an official blog, although they have no comments or trackbacks enabled. Yech.
