By extending day light savings, we are extending the time that dawn is closest to the start of our day and dusk is closest to the end of our day. The belief is this could help curb energy consumption but the reality is no matter what the clock says people will still turn on lights when it gets too dark to see.

By changing what the clock says, we change our relation to dawn and dusk (when people turn lights off and on). By extending day light savings, we are extending the time that dawn is closest to the start of our day and dusk is closest to the end of our day.
