Kodak waves bye to making B&W photo paper |
Here’s a sign of what digital cameras are doing to the black and white photography business: Kodak is putting the brakes on making black and white photographic paper, via Fox News:
John Eoff, owner of Photo-Lab Inc., said his 91-year-old shop in Schenectady, N.Y., still sells “a fair amount” of black-and-white paper to photography students and enthusiasts, while professional photographers have mostly gone to digital printing systems already.
In high school I did some photography work and can still recall the dark room with that red light and the smell of that chemical used to develop the film. The special paper wasn’t made in the United States, it was made in Brazil, and will end a 100 year tradition.
Other companies still make B&W paper like Ilford, Bergger and Forte, says one Slashdotter.
