Dropping out of college forced innovation, says Steve Jobs

finance — by TDavid @ 10:05 pm PST

An unusual graduation speech from Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs, where he talks about dropping out of college being a good move for him. Houston Chronicle:

Apple Computer Chief Executive Steve Jobs told Stanford University graduates Sunday that dropping out of college was one of the best decisions he ever made because it forced him to be innovative — even when it came to finding enough money for dinner.

I guess if administrators are going to get someone to speak to Stanford grads, Steve Jobs would be at least topical. He was treated as a “rock star” based on the iPod and Mac culture according to the article and also wore sandals and jeans beneath his robe? Hilarious!

Studies have shown that people with college degrees generally make more money.

Not throwing any stones here because I never even went to college. I believe college will open doors that people without the diploma will have a harder time, but if one has skills, expertise or experience in demand then the existence of a college degree will be merely iciing on the cake.
