Sony has released a PSP firmware update for all American PSPs, version 1.5.1:

You can go to Network Update in your Settings to download the update on your PSP through a Wi-Fi connection.

I noticed a number of people wondering at that PSP411 link what this security update actually does, so I poked around at the official Sony PSP site to see if there was an answer there. Didn’t even see an announcement with a quick surf (anybody else see something there?). You would think that there would be an announcement somewhere? I checked all the PSP Support pages, the “This Week’s New Release” (even though the firmware isn’t a game). Nadda.

Next I checked out the official Sony PSP messageboard and found the following thread with several pages discussing problems associated with the firmware upgrade.

Sony still hasn’t released an official internet browser yet. Wonder what they are waiting for? Fortunately with Wipeout Pure fellow PSPers can get their internet browser fix.

Speaking of Wipeout Pure, they also have released an update. One person said the Wipeout Pure updated reverted his DNS settings, but others reported no such problem.

Think I might sit this PSP firmware update out for a bit longer. Anybody else give it a try yet? Any issues or problems?

  3. i have a theory on the wipeout buisness. all i think is that the system scans the primary dns and reverts it if it is one of the well known 1’s being used
