Sims creator on next game: Spore |
Wired conducted a curious interview with Sims creator, Will Wright on his next significant game project entitled: Spore (pictures here).
Spore will give players the chance to control life — from the ground up. Starting with single-cell organisms, players work on designing life with ever more complexity. As the game progresses, players must figure out how to take creatures from individual animals to small tribes and then to cities, whole planets, solar systems and galaxies.
The first time I played the Sims wasn’t on a PC, it was actually the PS2 version. I’m probably one of the few gamers on the planet who has never played The Sims on a PC. The idea of controlling people doing regular life things as a game was fascinating, but not something I wanted to play with any real depth.
What interests me in the concept of Spore is users being able to create their organisms and then be able to add to a globally shared database to interact with other players. Though the interview states it is still a single player game, that seems like a pretty creative way to involve many, many other players.
Did this post make you go hmm?

I WANNA HAVE THAT GAME!!! So people say the graphics are pfffft (which i don’t think) and even if you start as a low-life one celled thingy. I don’t care a bit. The game looks good enough for me and its only good that you start as a one cellar thingy, because it means that the entire life depends on how you evolve and not that some wicked stupid life-form that evolved for you is your begin. if possible, i want that game as fast as us mortal humans can take care of. The immense variety of possible creatures you can make just let’s you go WOW. Further i want to say that its not only cool that you can make your own life-forms but also your own structures and vehicles. This game makes you a god, architect and more, lots more. Then add the fact that you can explore space at a certain moment after making your “race” social and BANG, you have a number one hit for everyone an this part of the solar-system!
