Hi Toby - good question. I consider most one-way trackbacks to be spam (one-way meaning that they don't link to the piece anywhere in their blog entry) unless they add significant value to the discussion or if it is somebody I know and we link back and forth to each other regularly (and maybe they just forgot the link, is my assumption).

Personally, I think it's a bit tacky to trackback to somebody without linking in the blog post. I try not to do that myself. I have the rel='nofollow' removed here so SE juice is being sent to those who trackback or comment, so I figure the least those folks can do is make sure to link to the trackbacked piece and share the linklove.

Hey TDavid - what about trackbacks, from what appear to be legit blogs, but the linking blog doesn't include anything about anthing you've written on your blog? Is that considered trackback spam?
