Rejected: Adsense RSS public beta already full?

blogs and podcasting — by TDavid @ 7:50 pm PST

I saw yesterday — and blogged yesterday — that Google Adsense for RSS was now open for a Public Beta. Within hours of their Googleblog blog post I had filled out the form to sign up. Earlier today I received the email above with their response:

Denied.

Seems like this might be a form rejection and not an actual personal reply. I blocked the name of the Google Adsense team member, but the rest of the text is verbatim from what I received. Because it looks very non-personal — a form rejection — I do not think this was private correspondence that I shouldn’t be able to publish.

So are they already full? They opened for one day to the “public” and within a mere few hours they had already received all the test candidates that they could handle? If that’s the case, then that’s really a limited, limited public beta, isn’t it?

Also, I just visited the Adsense for feeds signup page and it says nothing about their beta already being full. This makes me wonder if they are looking for certain types of blogs and this one doesn’t fit their criteria. Could the reason this blog was rejected is because it wasn’t using their own blogger blog software? Not trying to create any conspiracy or anything crazy here, I’m just wondering aloud. Any other blogger readers get accepted using other software?

I wrote a reply asking if I would need to reapply or if there were any other specific reasons my blog was not accepted besides the rather vague and obvious: “we’re unable to accept all applicants into the program.”

So, was there a storm of bloggers signing up? Must have been if everybody that tried to sign up hours after they notified the blogosphere are being rejected. Please let me know in the comments or via trackback if you had your blog accepted or denied, and if you were accepted what blog software are you using? I had to choose the “other” and put Wordpress (which although it’s not blogger is fairly popular blog software). Curious to hear what response others are getting that are applying.

Update: I just did notice a dropdown menu on the number of subscribers a blog has and don’t remember that field from yesterday. So, I just filled that form out again and put in the subscriber information for this blog. This blog has more than 100 subscribers, which was something new (I think) that they didn’t have yesterday as a requirement in order to be accepted. I wonder if this blog was rejected because I didn’t provide this information to them? Hmm …

Update 5/20/2005 10:57AM: As I had suspected, during the inital testing phase they are only accepting blogger.com and Movable Type/ TypePad blogs as of this time. They wrote me back and said they will notify me when their program is extended to other programs beside Blogger and Movable type/Typepad. Oddly enough, Robert McClaws blog wasn’t on Typepad (think it was an ASP solution, but might be wrong) and neither was WeblogsInc.

Did this post make you go hmm?

  12. Adsense for feeds is fully available now however from experience it is not that beneficial unless you have over a 1000 feed readers or more…:)
