PS3 gaming sequelitis

gaming — by TDavid @ 10:18 am PST

I’ve been on the gaming treadmill for years, joyfully at times, and not so joyfully other times. One of the things that bothers me about the current era of gaming is the plethora of sequels. Sequels are cheap, easy and while they are almost guaranteed cash for game makers, they are boring for at least this veteran gamer.

It used to be bagging on movie titles to games was the big complaint, but now I think it’s becoming sequels. There are exceptions of course like GTA franchise which has not just churned out more “me too” stuff and Halo2, but should I really get excited about a sixth Tekken game?

This morning I was reading Breaking Windows and see this update on PSP3 games from E3 (emphasis mine):

Sony showed numerous titles. Unfortunately, every single one of them was a sequel. Tekken 6, Metal Gear 4, Gran Turismo 5, Devil May Cry 4, Killzone 2, Red Dead Revolver 2, and Fight Night Round 3.

Glad to see that I’m not alone.

Update: for the complete PS3 specs, Jake has a solid PS3 rundown at 8-bit Joystick. Total backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2, that means a good library of games to start out with.

Oh, and I took out the erroneous “p” in the title.

Did this post make you go hmm?
