Google Blog dogfoods to Blogspot + adds blogroll |
I’ll admit that I wondered a little bit when Google launched their blog why they didn’t use their own blogspot domain. Wonder no more, as Google Blog has moved to Blogspot. I noticed they are not using that media bar across the top, so no serendipitious traffic being the next blog in line from there.
Also, they added a blogroll and look who’s on it? Jeremy Zawodny from Yahoo, Scoble made the cut, Ask Jeeves blog, Slashdot for Google, WebmasterWorld, the Yahoo search blog and more. PR0 at the moment, whereas the old Googleblog was like PR9, if my memory serves. I bet all those people on the blogroll wish they had been added when it was PR9 instead of PR0. Still, an honor I’m sure, to be blogrolled by the Google blogging team.
BTW, has anybody else noticed that Google seems to be picking up some more steam and blogging more often? Good to see.
Did this post make you go hmm?

It will be even nicer if the Google blog was even more open than it is - or in other words, a real blog. I wonder if Google folks are still somewhat reserved while blogging. Don’t expect them to share their trade secrets but it will be nice to hear more about what they are up to.

Why do you assume bloggers are pagerank whores?

Are you, Jeremy?

Seriously, Jeremy, if you are going to sit here and post that you would rather be linked up by a PR0 than a PR9 then sorry, that’s totally disingenuous. This has nothing to do with link whoring, but everything to do with perceived vs. actual value.
Google has already said the PR displayed is bogus (for “entertainment value” I think is the correct statment) but we can all guess that something shown as a PR9 is probably of more significant SE value than something that’s PR0. Duh.
If you truly don’t care, then congratulations on being one of the few webmasters who doesn’t.

I had no idea what the pagerank of either site was and really didn’t care.
Why is that so hard to believe? Blogging, in my world, is not a game of “collect the best links you can.” I suspect that’s true for many others as well.
