Tiger updates at my Mac blog |
A couple of folks have asked what happened in the Tiger purchase drama (see part 1, 2, and 3). Let me keep this one much shorter, sort of the epilogue to the story:
1) yes, I received Tiger at 6pm at CompUSA, without any further drama or conflict.
2) they didn’t have 24 copies, they actually had 90 and there were maybe 15-20 of us there, waiting for it at 6pm.
3) Tiger only comes on DVD format, so on Saturday I had to go to the Apple store and buy the Lacie DVD drive and burner ($179 USD) which comes with Toast 6 Titanium. My eMac did not come with a DVD drive.
4) I documented the Tiger installation on my newly titled Mac blog.
5) My Mac blog is where I expand on my Apple experience so there is ultimately where I’ll put most the Mac-related material. Why not here? Because before I bought a Mac it always used to bother me when I’d get excited about some program being talked about only to find that when I ran it down it was for Macs only. By having my own Mac blog, there is little doubt that almost everything there is Mac-related.
6) I haven’t heard back from anybody at CompUSA yet, but when/if I do hear back I will write a follow-up piece. The corporate office is closed on the weekend. I do have a case number for the customer no service issues I encountered and wrote about.
7) Performance issues with Tiger? I’ve had some brief stalls, but otherwise I haven’t noticed anything significant yet. I’m still pouring through the new features, actually. I read somewhere that Apple is aware of stalls on lower end processors (like my eMac) and is working on it.
Hope this answers the Mac-related questions. Of course I’ll still write about general Apple news and may link to Apple-related stuff here at MakeYouGoHmm but most of my Mac-related coverage will continue to be at my Mac blog.
