Apple sets sales record |
The iPod and iTunes clearly have helped revitalize Apple on a number of fronts and this last quarter they’ve experienced the best sales ever. Attribute this to their innate ability to make cool hardware. My wife, who has never used an Apple (not even the eMac that we have) saw the Mac Mini on a magazine cover and thought it was cool. I explained to her how small it was and she was like: “Wow, and it’s a full computer?” That’s what Apple does to people.
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says Apple continues to ride the iPod’s “halo effect.” Apple said more than 40% of Mac Mini customers are first-time users.
40%! Wow, so maybe it was the expense keeping some people out of purchasing Macs? We’ve been kicking around the idea of buying a Mini-Mac because the new glass desk we purchased recently has limited weight requirements and I can’t put the eMac on there along with the other equipment (Tablet PC, Laptop) because it’s too heavy. A mini-mac with an LCD monitor would work nicely. Currently the eMac sits across the office and has been used mostly for timeshifting radio as of late. Here are pictures of me unpacking the eMac from last year.
This might be the first time ever this blog has had two Apple related posts back to back. For those interested, I have an Apple blog (it looks like crap in IE, BTW) that is updated about as frequently as I use the Mac (again, would like to increase this frequency). Also, I have a .Mac account that I barely use, but love the goodies that .Mac accounts receive. And Tiger? Yup, it’s on the buy list around or on 4/29.

Interesting stuff - it just happens that I was reading this post over at The Velvet Rope, that you might find interesting..

Also, further down in regards to your recent post about changing up the site, and incorporating more content from outside writers - I’ll put a vote in the column that I enjoy the personalized read that I get into your world, since all of the postings stem from stuff you are digging, or are involved with - no need to fix what isn’t broken, but that’s just my opinion:-)

That forum thread is interesting, Matt, thanks for the pointer. As for changing up the site and adding more writers, well, thank you for taking time to make your feelings known on that subject. I suspect that I’ll continue to be the primary writer for this blog for a long time to come as I’m not really actively pursuing other writers to post here.
I would like to at least add the ability for readers and other writers to submit interesting stories and/or other cool stuff to share. Like the link you just provided, in fact
Also on the to-do list is that I would like add some way to track posts by author so that readers who were interested in following posts made this way — by author, across all categories — could continue to do so no matter how many writers contribute here (past, present or future). Also, there might be some authors that readers never want to read (maybe I’m one of them! LOL) so this would give them the ability to do that.
We’ve had guest writers here and there along the way, so not really an attempt to fix something that isn’t broken so much as it is an interest in adding more diversity specifically for those who are interested in that diversity. One thing I don’t want to do is alienate people who like the status quo. Change is definitely something to be careful about so thank you for reminding me about that.
However, as you’ve probably already noticed, I’m a pretty dynamic fellow, so I’m changing things quite frequently as it is. If I screw up and ruin something you liked, please let me know.
This goes for all readers.
