Publishing web content earlier via RSS

Tablet PC — by TDavid @ 11:33 am PST

I’m going through the news this morning and I just noticed the date on the following CNET article (pictured above): Skype dreams for developers. Today being the 2nd of April, they are making the publish date on this for Monday, April 4. Maybe they have been doing this awhile, or is this advance publishing notice unique to their RSS feeds?

I went to the CNET home page to locate this article and didn’t see it on several page refreshes. I tried searching for the article by keyword and the most recent Skype-related article was on March 23, 2005.

This is a really smart, cool way to publish and promote RSS adoption. Think about that for a moment: your RSS subscribers will be on the bleeding edge, getting your Monday content over the weekend — getting it before all the rest of the web that isn’t reading via RSS gets it on Monday. Nice work, CNET!

This type of advanced publishing is what I like reading magazines via Zinio. Yesterday the new issue of PC Magazine arrived digitally, dated April 26, 2005. I’ve been reading PC Mag digitally for almost two years. A Tablet PC in portrait mode is awesome for reading magazines digitally. Recently I noticed that Zinio upgraded to version 3.0 and changed their logo color (from green to blue-green) and interface, which looks a little smoother.
