PSP Web browser hidden in Wipeout Pure |

credit: roto/mozy
For those who want to browse websites on their PSP, mozy, roto and others have already figured out the hack, see hackaday:
the new psp game wipeout pure apparantly comes with a full featured web browser that is used to download updates. normally it’s restricted for that purpose alone, but roto sent me a line this morning saying that it could be hacked to function as a general web browser with a little dns trickery.
The blood and guts of how this was done is available at this mirror site. However, for those who own Wipeout Pure, already, Agret comments on Slashdot that:
Someone has already kindly setup a portal for all you people who want to view this without setting up a DNS server or from any access point. You can see his portal with your web browser (computer) here: http://67.171.70.72/wipeout/index.htmlTo use this on your PSP simply set your DNS to 67.171.70.72 inside the network settings then go into Wipeout Pure and hit Download.
More information about this portal is available here.

will someone make a USB mouse or small keypad for PSP? Are there any devices can ease web browsing so far?
Comment by dennis — June 12, 2005 @ 3:58 am PST
Do you have to open up wipeout pure each time you want to surf the internet? Or do you just have to do it once and the internet will always be your option once you have done it the first time? because I was planning on renting it and then do it. You guys are experts. Thanks alot.

Just one question. When I select the connection it connects and i get this grey screen with in the top left corner the wipeout sign. After that it just returns 2 the select connection screen without reporting any errors. Even with the non-hacked connection this happens. What do i have to do?

Comment by bobby — August 2, 2005 @ 10:09 pm PST
bobby - there will be an official Sony web browser in version 2.0 of the firmware which is slated to be relased on Aug 12, 2005. Accessing the hidden browser in the Wipeout Pure game described above should be legal, assuming one has legally acquired the game and Sony PSP of course
If you are nervous than just wait for the official Sony firmware upgrade.

Comment by Justin — November 15, 2005 @ 4:27 pm PST
Hi Justin - just upgrade the PSP firmware to version 2.xx — it comes with internet capability. Just keep in mind that when you do that you will lose any homebrew capability you might have previously had. See the official Sony PSP website for details.
