Yahoo to expand free email to 1GB, provide virus cleaner and index email |
By “mid-April” Yahoo is planning to update their free email storage to 1GB. Currently the space available is 250MB. Also, they plan to upgrade their desktop search, which is based on licensed X1 technlogy, to allow indexing of e-mail, addresses and Yahoo messenger discussion. And as if that’s not enough, they are going to be providing software (unknown if it will be free or not) to clean viruses detected in emails.
When Google introduced “Gmail,” Yahoo provided just 4 megabytes of free e-mail storage. Yahoo, which runs the world’s most popular Web site, has gradually increased its e-mail capacity in response to Google’s competitive threat. Microsoft’s Hotmail service offers 250 megabytes of free e-mail storage.
Unless Gmail leaves beta, or Microsoft upgrades hotmail to 1GB storage or greater before mid-April, then this will make Yahoo the only major search engine or portal to get 1GB free email without needing an invitation. There have been niche players like Hriders which offer more free email space (100GB!), but not without issues.
Did this post make you go hmm?

Try www.rediffmail.com . Its free and offers 1GB free space. Its the world’s first email service offering 1GB without any invitation…..!!!
