Day 78 Tablet PC slate ownership: bought external CD-RW |

I suppose it was inevitable that I would need an external CD drive for the Tablet PC. I couldn’t install Microsoft Streets & Trips 2005 over the network without jumping through some additional hoops and the only other external CD drive we had was parallel (and several years old) while I could have bought a USB converter I decided instead to upgrade and buy the Memorex ultraspeed CD Recorder. Back when I bought the other backback external CD writer it was over $350 USD, this one from Memorex with 52x CD-R, 32x CD-RW and 52X CD-ROM is vastly faster and better for less than a $100 USD.
As I write this I finally opened the package and am installing the Visual Studio .NET I won at the last MSDN event I attended a few months back. Can’t install Visual Studio in Portrait mode (my favorite Tablet PC mode) so switched to 1024×768, landscape. I have been a long time user of Visual Studio and have another development machine running for regular development effforts. I also have the disc for Beta 1 of Whidbey, but haven’t tried that out yet. That’s right Visual Studio development on a Tablet PC! Is it possible? Some are doing it, it seems, anyway, but I don’t know how it will work for me. Thanks to a blog post by Lora Heiny, I signed up for a Webcast later this month dealing with Tablet PC development with Michelle McKelvey architect Mobile Platforms Division, Microsoft and Bernd Helzer, senior architect, Agilix Labs, Inc.
Guess it’s time for me to start keeping better track of Tablet PC development links:
- Tablet PC SDK 1.7 Download
- MSDN Tablet PC Library
- Channel 9 Tablet PC Wiki - three links on development on a Tablet PC
